Active Vacances offers 4 star rated luxury gîte accommodation in the Béarn des Gaves region of South-West France. The mountain ranges of the French Pyrénées form a spectacular backdrop to the mountain river valley of the Gave d'Oloron. Lying next to the beautiful, rolling foothills of the Pyrénées, the gîte is ideally placed for exploring this inspirational countryside all year round.
The immediate vicinity of the gîte offers a wealth of opportunities both for the active and adventurous as well as those who prefer a more relaxed approach to their vacation. Virtually on our doorstep are waymarked woodland trails that are ideal for walking, running, mountain biking and horse-riding. Quiet, well-surfaced roads radiate in every direction, perfect for cycling through the rolling foothills of the Pyrénées or to the more famous Tour de France mountain climbs. Ski stations or surf beaches can be reached by car within the hour. The nearby town of Navarrenx boasts a world famous salmon-fishing river, as well as providing the starting point for canoeing and rafting trips. For those who prefer “blue sky thinking” and seeing the bigger picture there's no better way of clearing the mind than seeing the country-side spreading out below you from a hot air balloon trip or micro-lighting. And then of course there is the gîte's own large private garden and 25 metre long, heated swimming pool. With so much to do and see, we have endeavoured to provide our guests with a high level of accommodation with every comfort taken care of to leave them refreshed and revitalised and ready for the next days adventures – activated and regenerated!
25 metre heated pool
Situated in the small village of Gurs, just south of the 14th century Bastide town of Navarrenx our traditional house has been renovated by local artisans and equipped to a very high standard offering accommodation for 9 guests in 3 double bedrooms and a family room, each with its own bathroom. Outside there is a large, sunny garden with a fantastic 25 metre heated private swimming pool. The large, secluded garden, encircled by evergreen bushes, has a selection of cherry, pear, apple and greengage trees as well as mimosa, Bean trees & Camelias where you can easily find a quiet corner to relax, play, snooze or read a book on the comfortable steamers or in the hammock made for two to share! The 25 x 5 metre swimming pool is where you can do the hardest training session with the anti-wave lane ropes in place or just simply jump in for a nice cooling dip.Testimonial
“What are your plans for the remainder of the season? I'm going to go back to the Active-Vacances gite in the Pyrénées where I've been training. That's why I think I won yesterday – I got in some good training with Kathy and Paul Donnelly and they've really helped me set up a good training base.” Extract from Triathlete Europe magazine interview with Paul Amey, 3x World Duathlon Champion (following his Tristar200 win in September 2009)
